Did you know Holiday Inn Sanibel Island is the only “brandname” hotelĀ on Sanibel Island? It is.

The upside is; the name is known, the hotel must be compliant with brand standards, largest reservation system in the world, full service, and you can get points for your stay if you are a Priority Club Rewards member.

Now, the downside; probably a “cookie-cutter” hotel, like every other Holiday Inn. Actually, that’s not the case here, we are located on the beach, on Sanibel Island, featuring the Starfish Grille Restaurant and the Star Bar. Also, Priority Club Rewards members receive a free “shelling” bag at check in that may be used for collecting shells right on our private beach.

Some history; our hotel became a Holiday Inn in September 1995. The hotel was originally a Ramada Inn. The restaurant was opened before the hotel and has had several operators over the years, including: Glads Fresh Seafood House, J.Todd’s, Island House, Morgan’s Forest, Courtney’s on Sanibel, and now the Starfish Grille. There have been other “chain” hotels on Sanibel Island, at one time there was a Best Western and a Hilton.

Peak season is very much in swing now and the weather this winter has been amazingly great. Fabulous beach weather! I don’t know that I have ever seen so many folks out riding bikes as I have this winter. Bike rentals are available at the front desk for $3.00 an hour. There are 23 miles of bike paths on Sanibel Island.

The Starfish Grille is really becoming a popular spot for our guests and islanders. They now feature SUSHI NIGHTS every Tuesday and Thursday, a big hit!

That’s all for now folks, hope to see you down on the beach!
